IRON BUTTERFLY

This is one of the most heavily psychedelic acid rock bands around. Iron butterfly was one of the first rock bands to get extensive airplay all because of the 17min epic "in-a-gadda-da-vida". In 1966 band leader Doug Ingle and drummer Ron Bushy, writers of the track, formed the first incarnation of Iron Butterfly in San Diego. They then moved to L.A. and became hip to the club scene and not long after they landed a record contract and went on to do tours with bands such as the Doors and Jefferson Starship.
In 1968 the debut album Heavy was released.
Original members Jerry Penrod (bass), Darryl DeLoach (vocals), and Danny Weis (guitar) left the band and were replaced by guitarist Erik Braunn and bassist Lee Dorman. Weis went on to join Rhinoceros.
The follow-up album Ball, blew peoples minds and went gold and basically the band went down the drain and broke up in 1971.
A total drag.
